HR /IR Update
Come and join the Nursery & Garden Industry of Victoria for a half day forum on recent updates regarding HR /IR from the NGIV industrial relations consultant, Sheena Kane.



Members will be provided with an update and overview of the following:

  • Different areas of the law and HR, i.e. equal opportunity, bullying and harassment, WorkCover and WorkSafe, and performance reviews.
  • Hiring and firing
  • Employing and documentation for short term casual workers
  • Employment contracts
  • Classification of different grades in the award
  • Public holidays and casual rates
  • 10 National Employment Standards (NES), particularly the changes around taking annual leave and cashing out
  • Recent changes to employing casuals and what this means
  • Unfair dismissal - small business v large business
  • HR policies for business, e.g. bullying and harassment policy, leave polices, code of conduct, etc.

About the Facilitator:

Sheena Kane worked in many industries before returning to university to study. From there she found her passion for industrial relations and has pursued this in her career. Sheena has found it useful to be able to combine her knowledge on a number of topics related to employing people, such as wages, penalty rates, leave entitlements, unfair dismissals, equal opportunity, WorkCover and OH&S.
