Victoria's lockdown restrictions explained

Victoria has imposed a seven-day “circuit-breaker lockdown” in response to a growing Covid cluster in Melbourne’s northern suburbs, in a bid to minimise movement and interactions. From 11.59pm Thursday, 27 May until 11.59pm Thursday 3 June, the following rules apply to the entire state of Victoria:

Horticulture industry
As with previous lockdowns, our retail garden centres are restricted to Click & Collect and delivery only. The 5km limit does not apply to delivery drivers when delivering packages or items as part of their work. Our growers and allied businesses are able to trade as normal.

Face masks
Masks must be worn everywhere except for in your home. This includes both indoor places and outdoor areas – unless you have a medical exemption. This rule applies to all of Victoria.

Travel to work
The state government won’t be reinstituting the work permit system from prior lockdowns in Victoria.

Interstate travel
Each state and territory is updating guidance on travel rules individually:

Queensland | New South Wales | South Australia | Western Australia | Tasmania | Australian Capital Territory | Northern Territory

Leaving your home
You cannot leave your home unless it is for one of five approved reasons. The reasons are: shopping; authorised work or education; exercise; caregiving, compassionate and medical reasons; and to get vaccinated. For shopping and exercise, you need to stay within 5km of your home.

Vaccinations
The Victorian government has expanded the eligibility to include those aged between 40-49 for state-operated vaccination sites. People in this category can now call the hotline on 1800 675 398 to book an appointment.

It is mandatory for every Victorian business with on-site operations to have a COVID-Safe Plan.

NGIV will continue to provide updates as and when we have them. We ask that all members continue to adhere to the Government restrictions and operate in a COVID-Safe fashion. If any members are seeking further clarity around the restrictions please do contact the NGIV Office - 03 95760599.
