Ed Gilman, Ph.D.
Professor Emeritus Environmental Horticulture Department, University of Florida.

Dr Gilman is a Professor Emeritus from the Environmental Horticulture Department at the University of Florida in Gainesville, and has been on the faculty since 1984. He has produced a significant number of academic papers and wrote the ‘Illustrated Guide to Pruning’, which is now in its third edition. He received the Authors Citation Award in 1999, Educators Award in 2003, research award in 2007, and the Award of Merit from the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA’s highest award) in 2016. He has published more than 120 scientific peer reviewed journal articles on roots, planting, and pruning trees in his 35 years in academia and industry and has conducted more than 800 presentations to professional groups throughout his career.


This event along with the project, Evaluation of Nursery Tree Stock Balance Parameters (NY15001), is funded by Hort Innovation, using the nursery research and development levies and contributions from the Australian Government. Hort Innovation is the grower-owned, not-for-profit research and development corporation for Australian horticulture.


DAY ONE

Place your pruning approach in context with practices world-wide, know why standards and specifications matter, differentiate between structural pruning objectives to developing clear communication skills. Presented by Ed Gilman, Ph.D.

DAY TWO

Day two will focus on trees and their establishment in the Australian context using the Australian Standard to determine tree quality, selecting resilient species for the future urban forest and taking a closer look at soil types. Presented by various.

DAY THREE

Differentiate between natural and planted root systems, learn how to improve quality and anchorage with root management, treat roots to improve health. Presented by Ed Gilman, Ph.D.
