Stage 4 restrictions for retail nurseries and garden centres

The introduction of Stage 4 restrictions will have a significant impact on garden centres and retail nurseries in Metropolitan Melbourne. From Thursday plant retailers will only be permitted to operate contactless ‘click and collect’ and delivery services.

Here's a brief overview of Click and Collect and Delivery options. Once installed both models have the potential to improve your business and sales beyond COVID-19 restrictions.

Click and Collect
Save time, buy online. Setting up a system that allows your customers to browse and buy from home, then collect at your nursery is a winning formula that mixes eCommerce with real world nursery sales. Make it even easier with a drive through lane so people don’t need to leave their cars.

Home Delivery
The faster the delivery, the more compelling the offer for your customer, and word will spread fast that people can now buy this way.

COVID-Safe Plan

Under the Stage 4 restrictions, certain services and industries will be able to remain operational and will be required by law to have a COVID-Safe Plan. Employers must complete their COVID Safe plan by 11.59pm on 7 August 2020.

A COVID-Safe Plan helps protect your workers, customers and visitors. Find out more.  The Victorian Government have created a COVID-Safe Plan template and guidance to create your own.

Worker permits

From 11:59pm on Wednesday 5 August, employers that require their staff to attend a work site must issue a worker permit to their employees – this is the employer’s responsibility.

Employers can issue a worker permit to their employee if:

- the organisation is on the list of permitted activities
- the employee is working in an approved category for on-site work, and
- the employee cannot work from home.

There are two reasons that retail employees will require a Worker Permit; to help provide "contactless pickup for public" and "for the purposes of fulfilling online orders."

Each employee required to be on site must receive an individual worker permit.
