Teachers workshop to be held at Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show - Nature of Outdoor Classrooms

Nature of Outdoor Classrooms

Join us at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show for a special workshop featuring last year’s Kevin Heinze Perpetual Award winning school Bonbeach Primary School sharing their garden program journey, two key note presenters, industry expert Tim Sansom to answer questions and provide advice for growing successful gardens and time to view the show.

Key Note Presenters

Sarah Hadgrove
is a horticulturalist and landscape designer with a specialist focus on green roofs and walls. She conducts regular workshops for councils and in schools on a variety of gardening and environment related topics.

Topic: Gardening for Small Spaces in Schools
The talk will largely focus on vertical gardening with edibles, using recycled and low budget materials. A variety of small space gardening ideas will be offered to teachers to use in schools. Project examples and demonstration modules will be used to highlight the importance of site considerations, good design and appropriate maintenance. The workshop component will include the opportunity for participants to get their hands dirty and help build a small demonstration vertical garden using recycled materials.

Erica Gurner of HumaNature Connect specialises in facilitating deep learning experiences for organisations and groups with a focus on nature and wellbeing.

Topic: Connecting to Gardens and Nature using the Respectful Relationship Curriculum. The new curriculum resource Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) has many activities that can be modified easily to focus-on or utilise nature, thus improving not just relationships with one self and others but also relationships with oneself, others and nature. This hands-on workshop will focus on adapting and trialling these activities. Participants will leave with ideas for activities they can do in the garden that relate to topics 1-5 of the RRRR curriculum.
