Join this online training session focused on Polyphagous Shot-Hole Borer (PSHB) and its relevance to nursery businesses. Learn how to identify host species, recognise symptoms of infestation, understand surveillance and reporting processes, and apply practical management and risk reduction strategies.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is delivering a targeted online training program focused on the Polyphagous Shot-Hole Borer (PSHB), specifically designed for nursery professionals.

PSHB is an invasive pest that attacks a wide range of tree species and presents a significant risk to Australia’s natural and urban environments. While currently contained in Western Australia, it is critical that industry stakeholders across Australia are informed and prepared in the event of spread.

This training provides practical, industry-relevant knowledge to support early identification, risk reduction, and response planning within nursery settings.

Participants will gain an understanding of:
• PSHB biology and behaviour
• identification of host species
• symptoms of infestation
• surveillance and reporting processes
• management, treatment and disposal practices
• risk reduction strategies for nursery operations

Workshop structure

Workshop 1 – Management focus (14 May 2026)
• Management planning
• Prevention and risk reduction
• Treatment and disposal, management level

Workshop 2 – Operational focus (17 June 2026)
• Surveillance and data capture
• Native and exotic hosts and sampling
• Treatment and disposal, operational level

Participants are encouraged to attend both sessions for a complete understanding.
