WATER

The NGIV has enjoyed considerable success in our negotiations with the government and water authorities. This has led to the introduction of stage 3A water restrictions in the melbourne metropolitan area and many regional centres.

As a responsible industry body, NGIV understands the implications of this extended dry period. We are committed to helping our members and the industry to manage their way through this difficult time.

This water section provides industry with relevant and timely information on water issues, legislation, restrictions, helpful hints and practical information.

The NGIV has been working hard to mitigate the worst effects of these restrictions.

The DRP is meant to serve as the template for interpreting restrictions across the state which imposes several problems on our industry. A large part of the DRP targets amenity horticulture, it doesn't look at water use inside the home and does not recognise the technical advances in water use by production nurseries.

The NGIV has been active in its government relations. We have also been far more active in our attempts to remind gardeners that restrictions do not mean that their favourite activity has suddenly become illegal. In our view most of the savings made over the last few years in household water use have been made outside the house, i.e. in the garden.
