Winning schools win prize vouchers to use on further school grounds development.

The Categories

1. Primary and Special Schools with 100 pupils or less

2. Primary and Special Schools with 101 - 280 pupils

3. Primary and Special Schools with over 280 pupils

4. Post-primary Schools

Schools' Garden Awards Victoria 2008

The Awards

1.Regional Awards ($300 plus plaque)

One Regional Award per category is awarded for each Education Region.

 

2. Achievement Awards

($200 plus certificate)

Two Achievement Awards per category are awarded for each Education Region.

 

3. State Awards ($1000 plus plaque)

These are the major awards and are chosen by the State Judging Panel from the nominated Regional Award winners. Four State winners (one from each category).

 

4. Awards of Merit ($450 plus plaque)

These are the Sponsors awards and will be chosen by the State Judging Panel. The awards recognise the high standard of the school garden, grounds development and maintenance. Such factors as socio-economic, soil and climatic conditions may be taken into consideration.

 

5. Special Awards ($450)

At the discretion of the State Judging Panel, special awards may be given. These Awards would take into consideration some special feature not covered under the Award criteria.

 

6. Pink Heath Award ($450)

 The awards recognise outstanding continuous development of a schools gardens & grounds.
 

7. Kevin Heinze Perpetual Development Award

The award is chosen from the Pink Heath Award winners.

The Judging

1. Judging Criteria

Judging criteria are listed on the back of the enclosed Application Form available from the Nursery and Garden Industry Victoria website, www.ngiv.com.au. Judging is not based on the most aesthetic school ground but rather on improvements made to the school environment through the active involvement of pupils, teachers and the school community.

 

2. Regional Judging

From mid August to 19th September Regional Judges, from Regional Offices, will visit entrant schools to carry out the Regional Judging. Regional and Achievement Award winners will be notified in early October.

 

3. State Judging

From Monday 27th October through to Monday 10th November inclusive, the State Judging panel will visit the Regional Award winners by helicopter for the judging of the State Awards in each category.

 

4. Presentation Day

All awards will be presented on Thursday 4th December at the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne.

 

Note:

  • Any school that is awarded a State Award in any one year will be ineligible to win a State Award in the following year; however the school will be eligible to win any other award.

  • All prizes include GST

 

Participation Certificate

All schools will receive a congratulatory certificate for entering the Awards. This certificate will be signed by popular gardening personality and Patron of the Awards, Kevin Heinze OAM. This certificate will be presented by the Regional Judges during their Regional Judging visit.

 

School Gardens Advisory Service

Arrange a brief visit by a School Gardens Advisor for advice on developing school grounds projects. Note charges apply.

The 2008 Brochure will be released in late May.
