Next Gen
The nursery and garden industry is full of enthusiastic,
successful young people, who will shape the future of the
industry. Now NGIV has launched a forum for people under 35
year-olds to meet, exchange ideas and hone leadership
skills.
NextGen Nursery Group is an NGIV initiative to help future leaders meet their peers and form useful networks. Launched in 2006, NextGen has already received strong support from both employers and young people interested in joining the group. NextGen Nursery People is a unique opportunity for young Horticulturalists to form invaluable networks, learn more about the industry and to have fun.

NextGen AIM:
The group exists “to nurture and grow young members of the horticultural industry by providing unique networking and career developing opportunities to help members excel and become innovative and inspirational leaders”.
NextGen Objectives:
1. To have a strong unified industry, where retailers, wholesalers and allied traders understand each other’s needs and work together.
2. To promote exciting careers and career paths within the industry.
3. To ensure the Victorian horticultural industry will maintain its reputation as a world leader with innovative and knowledgeable young staff members and business leaders.
4. To ensure young people in the industry have a voice.
5. Awarding excellence & initiative in the industry.
This is to be achieved by:
1. Quarterly NextGen member meetings. These will provide members with invaluable opportunities to network as well as have inspiring guest speakers.
2. Giving NextGen members the opportunity to participate in additional business workshops, motivational sessions and nursery tours.
3. Working closely with other state, national and international organisations similar to NextGen to provide exchange opportunities.
4. Providing NextGen members with a free e-newsletter bringing news and information targeted directly at this group.
5. Sharing the group’s ideas, thoughts and suggestions about how to improve the industry with business leaders and NGIV industry decision makers. This gives young members of the industry a voice and access to key players in the industry.
6. Encouraging young NextGen members to run for industry positions, such as the NGIV board and NGIV committees.
